LANDSCAPES

Regardless of how I feel about humanity or life, I never worry about the purpose. If I have enough time and space to notice the landscape around me, that is enough. I need no more reasons or miracles.

These color landscapes are precious to me. They provide me with a sense of color and space that is very reassuring to me. One of my first tattoos, hand-poked with a dull sewing needle, is of the words "COLOR" and "light." I did it before I ever seriously considered the art of photography. It was to remind me that if all else fails, at least there will still be color and light: two beautiful, unsurpassable miracles.

Black and white landscapes provide a different sensation. My grandmother used to dream in grays, never in color. I find this unsettling. Perhaps for the same reasons, seeing a place without color can be shocking to me.

With these black and white landscapes there is a unshakable seriousness as we look at the textures and light of our surroundings, without the distraction of color.
