PEOPLE ON THE STREET
Street photography is documentary in nature, showing how people fit into their environments without interrupting them. San Diego is a diverse city and every person has their own story—unique, powerful and unnoticed among so many others. These photographs give a window into their lives.
The pictures to the right are selected works from a series of photographs of people on the streets of San Diego titled, "People on the Street." Although I don't know any of them personally, I feel that I do.
I took these photographs in 2010-11 to process my surroundings, as I began to accept that San Diego is where my roots are. Instead of identifying with the emotionally cold neighborhood I grew up in, I identify with the people in these photographs. These folks go unnoticed; They don't matter to the powers that paint the worlds’ ideas of their city.
The reason I left San Diego a second time when I did was because I grew to identify so much with these folks that I was afraid I'd get stuck there. This is San Diego as it is in my heart.
